Crop Specific Solutions

COCONUT CROP

Problem: Red Palm Weevil (RPW) Infestation

Challenges

  • RPW is a major pest affecting coconut, date, and palm trees.

  • The larvae bore into the trunk, causing internal damage that leads to tree death.

  • Infestation is hard to detect early, making prevention crucial.

Solution:Farmroot RPW Lure

  • Pheromone-Based Trap: Attracts male and female weevils.

  • Eco-Friendly & Chemical-Free: Reduces reliance on pesticides.

  • Cost-Effective: A sustainable solution for farmers.

  • Easy to Install: Works best when placed strategically in coconut farms.

How to Use RPW Lure Effectively

  1. Trap Placement:Install traps 1.5 to 2 meters above ground in affected areas.

    • Use 1 trap per 1-acre for effective control.

  2. Baiting the Trap:Add fermenting coconut pieces or sugar water as an additional attractant.

    • This increases the effectiveness of the pheromone lure.

  3. Monitoring & Maintenance:Regularly check traps for weevils and empty them.

    • Replace the lure every 2-3 months for continued effectiveness.

Problem: Rhinoceros beetle  Infestation

Challenges:

  • Rapid Reproduction & Widespread Infestation: Rhinoceros beetles breed in decaying organic matter, making them difficult to control.

  • Damage to Tree Growth: Infestations weaken trees, making them vulnerable to secondary infections and pests.

  • Limited Effectiveness of Pesticides: Chemical control can harm beneficial insects and the environment.

  • Labor-Intensive Manual Control: Handpicking beetles is effective but requires significant effort and time.

  • Sustainability Concerns: Farmers need a long-term, non-toxic solution that minimizes environmental impact.

Solution:RB Lure and Bucket Trap System

  • Highly targeted: Attracts only rhinoceros beetles.

  •  Eco-friendly: No harmful chemicals involved.

  •  Cost-effective: Reduces labor costs compared to manual control.

  • Long-lasting: Pheromone lures remain effective for 45–60 days.

How it works?

  1. Trap Setup:Take a 5–10 liter plastic bucket and drill small holes at the bottom for water drainage.

    • Attach a funnel or slotted lid to allow beetles to enter but not escape.

  2. Lure Placement:Hang the RB pheromone lure inside the bucket, ensuring it does not touch water or dead beetles.

    • The lure emits pheromones that attract adult beetles from surrounding areas.

  3. Trap Positioning:Hang the traps at a height of 3–5 feet from the ground.Place one trap per acre for effective control.

    • Install traps near breeding sites such as rotting logs, manure heaps, and compost pits.

  4. Monitoring and Maintenance:Check traps weekly and remove captured beetles.

    • Replace pheromone lures every 45–60 days to maintain effectiveness.

  5. Integrated Pest Management (IPM) Support:Remove breeding sites like decaying organic matter.

    • Apply biocontrol agents like Metarhizium anisopliae (fungal pathogen) to target beetle larvae.Use neem-based sprays to deter beetle attacks on coconut crowns.

MANGO CROP

The Issue:Fruit flies are a major pest affecting mango trees, leading to significant fruit damage and yield loss.Female fruit flies lay eggs inside ripening mangoes, causing decay.Infested fruits drop prematurely and become unsuitable for sale or consumption.

Challenges for Farmers:

✔ Hard to detect infestation early.

✔ Conventional chemical sprays may leave residues.

✔ Rapid spread leads to large-scale crop damage.

Solution: Farmroot Fruit Fly LureA

  • pheromone-based trap that attracts and captures male fruit flies, effectively reducing         the population without using harmful pesticides.

Why Use Farmroot Fruit Fly Lure?

✔ Eco-Friendly & Chemical-Free – Safe for the environment and beneficial insects.

✔ Highly Effective – Targets fruit flies before they lay eggs.

✔ Cost-Effective – Reduces the need for expensive chemical sprays.

✔ Long-Lasting – Each lure lasts up to 60–90 days.
